Jiří David: I'm Here

Jiří David, a multimedia artist and educator, who since the mid-1980s has exerted significant influence on the Czech art scene, presents his newest works, paintings both large and small, in an exhibition entitled I’m Here. He works with a rare artistic approach: a self-portrait from the rear, which he accents in the exhibition through repetition on three canvases, he immerses himself in the colourful intoxication of flowers and gardens, paints nude female bodies as well as himself, and in several paintings achieves a certain dematerialization of the physical body. The exhibition, featuring some thirty works, includes a series devoted to grass, a motif quite unique in Western art when it comes to artistic focus.

Michaël Borremans: The Duck

The work of Belgian painter Michaël Borremans is characterized by a strong psychological moment. Although his pictorial themes are often associated with latent violence, they excel in their extraordinary beauty. The specific illusory quality of his paintings reveals a great interest in the medium of film and photography, primarily as a source of inspiration for the compositional structure of his paintings. Over time, he also began to create videos that capture his moving canvases and open up a new dimension to his work.

Kurt Gebauer

The retrospective exhibition of Kurt Gebauer (1941) will be the most comprehensive probe to date into the sixty-year-long oeuvre of this original sculptor and pedagogue who has had a lasting influence on Czech public space. His lifelong interest in figuration (not the objective figure, but the perceived, animated and moving one) led Gebauer to a form of expression that is entirely unique in both the Czech and international contexts, and it also allowed him to offer a sensitive but biting critique of the political situation both before and after 1989.
