PRAGUE SPECIAL: Eva Jiricna's hallmark has been the elegance of her interiors
Eva Jiricna, like Jan Kaplicky and Boris Sipek, is one of the Czech luminaries who emigrated some 30 years ago. While Sipek returned to the Czech Republic to live, Jiricna and Kaplicky continued to work in London at the Richard Rogers agency. For more than twenty years, Eva Jiricna's hallmark has been the elegance of her interiors, she has been working stably in Prague for several years. In the city centre, the Hotel Josef was constructed on a piece of land left abandoned until the 1960s. On the ground floor is the foyer, the reception and a bar that form a highly developed unit around a magnificent staircase, a focal point in the centre of a space left deliberately quite simple. The basement plays host to several conference rooms. The facade is distinguished by the shutters on the windows, which protect from sunlight, provide privacy and organize the wall. A second building, slightly set back from the others, is sited on the inside courtyard and houses the restaurant. Particularly admirable ist the intention of the architect to create a hotel with a simple and reserved quality, eschewing ostentatious luxury while ensuring the superior aesthetic quality of the rooms.
